I bought a UMC32 from you on 25th Nov last year but have only just got around to building the project that will use it. The 1st thing I did was to follow the instructions to upgrade the firmware to the latest v2.3 (I'm assuming the one I have will currently be loaded with v1.41).

I dug out an old laptop that has WinXP Pro and made sure it was upgraded to SP3 and attempted to install the Bootloader driver. I plugged the board in, it was detected and seemd to install the driver, but Windows reported it may not have installed correctly. After further checing it transpired I didn't have the .NET framework installed. Having now installed .NET v3.5, I can't get my PC to recognise the UMC32. MY other PCs are Windows 7 64 bit and they don't recognise it when in class-compliant mode (though I'm not sure if it should with the v1.41 firmware loaded).

I've tried removing any odd looking hidden USB drivers but still no joy. Following some of the threads on here I have tried a few things:

  • With all DIP switches ON (Diagnostic mode?), the LED flashes quickly and repeatedly whether the Shift Pin is shorted or not. One of your posts seems to suggest this means the v1.41 firmware is running OK (?)
  • With DIP switches 1-9 ON but number 10 switched OFF, the LED is permanently lit whether the Shift Pin is shorted or not. When set up like this, my WinXP laptop doesn't seem to acknowledge or recognise that the UMC32 is connected. When the Shift Pin is open, Windows does not show any MIDI ports related to the UMC32 and when it is shorted, the Bootloader utility reports not device has been detected.
  • At no point do I see a Hale Micro USB driver in WinXP's Device Manager.

Could you suggest some options for me to try?

kindest regards,

Dave.

Hi Dave,

Sorry you are having trouble.  It sounds like you've gone thru all the usual steps properly, which makes me think
we should look at something at the hardware level as being the culprit.  I'll send you email regarding some options.

Best,

Kenneth

Just wanted to tie this thread up by saying that KG contacted me directly to sort out this issue. I just wish every business I dealt with was as pro-active and professional as Kenneth. I now have my project working perfectly.

I'll post some pictures of my project in the General Discussion section shortly.

In terms of the hardware, it's finished and working perfectly. The problem I have now is how Steinberg's Cubase handles mapping of controllers to effect plugins. I'll post details in the General Discussion forum.
